During high school, I had many insecurities about my skin tone. I wasn’t getting a lot of male attention, and I started to think it was because I was too dark. As I grew older, I began to love the features that God gave me and decided to embrace every piece of me, from my culture to my skin tone to my hair and full lips. There isn’t anything about me that I do not find beautiful, and I am choosing this blog post and slowly growing platform to celebrate it.
As you guys know, I am currently in grad school, obtaining my master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology. Update on grad school, it’s tougher than I thought it would be but rewarding when I take meaningful classes. This winter, I decided to take an accelerated course, 3 weeks, 3 times a week, for almost 4 hours a day. Yeah, it was pretty brutal. But, the class or frequency of the course was not the issue. The professor was an opinionated, filterless older gentleman that definitely said a lot of questionable things for the duration of the class. One of his comments resonated with me and inspired this blog post. “I don’t hire bigger people for a certain position because they don’t look as professional when they are speaking to the public.” This sparked a comment from one of my more vocal classmates, “so, because someone is bigger, they can’t look professional?” He made no comment but sort of shook his head. I looked through my closet a few days ago, and I realized that turtlenecks are slowly creeping their way back into my wardrobe. I had written them off in my teenage years. I thought they weren’t going to make a comeback until I realized that I bought turtlenecks without…realizing that I bought turtlenecks. That made sense in my head. Anyway, a turtleneck can be a very versatile item in your wardrobe. You can dress it up or dress it down. It all depends on how you accessorize it. Also, you don’t have to have a fancy, expensive turtleneck. The one I am featuring in this post is about 20 dollars from Target and is actually a “layerable.” The simplicity of a simple black turtleneck is an absolute staple and should be in every girl’s wardrobe!Read More »
Hello, and welcome back to my blog page. Today we’re going to be discussing suits. Okay, I couldn’t last with the seriousness too long. Well, we are going to be talking suits, specifically one suit, so that part was genuine. BUT Hello everyone, how are ya? I hope your week was awesome, mine left something to be desired that’s for sure! This week I decided it was finally time to wear the suit that I had been holding on to for quite some time. I’m not really super into suits, but I have seen the rise in trend over the last year. So, I thought I would show you guys how I styled my suit together and separately. Suits are not in my regular work repertoire, but I have an intense fascination with wearing a suit to a formal event with some type of lacey bodysuit and some sky-high stilettos. That’s going to stay a fantasy for a while because me and sky-high stilettos do not typically work out, I do the weird buckle that Kevin Hart talked about in his comedy special.Read More »
Guys! Did you know that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday? Probably not and that’s okay but now you know! I don’t just love the holiday for the large amounts of mac and cheese, but because it’s one of the holidays where everyone gathers and it’s not because they got a gift waiting. You see your family in one room, and everyone is extremely happy, laughing, and talking. You always see that one cousin that you don’t really talk to daily but when you get together it’s nothing but good vibes. The home that you go to smells like love and happiness. I just absolutely adore Thanksgiving. So, I thought it would be fitting to discuss Thanksgiving outfits. Now, everyone’s family is different. Some Thanksgiving dinners are super upscale, so you have to wear your absolute best clothing. Some are less upscale and because you live in the host home, you’re probably going to wear pajamas. My family is somewhere in between, we dress nice, but nobody is coming to dinner dripped in diamonds and pearls. We are comfortable classy, which is right up my alley. Read More »
In this episode of “Wearing Clothes That Scare Me”, I will be featuring the bodycon dress. Bodycon dresses leave nothing to be hidden. There is no cover-up for problem areas, you can’t scrunch a certain way to hide things and for me, that is nerve-wracking. My problem area is my tummy, and I try my best to make sure that I am uber comfortable in what I’m wearing. I’m not good with tight things because they bring attention to my stomach and I do not like that. This doesn’t mean that I am not in love with my body (in like, we still working on our relationship) but I’m aware of the things that make me self-conscious and I avoid them like the plague. That’s why buying this dress was such a big deal to me, I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and see what I felt like. Trying it on at home is different than wearing it out in public, so I just had to go for it.Read More »
The leaves on the trees are starting to change colors, it’s getting dark earlier, your car windows are foggy in the morning, you know what that sounds like? Sounds like Fall weather has finally hit us, and I couldn’t be happier! I am not a huge Halloween fan – I did, however, pass out candy this year (Yay, Adulting). But I am a huge Fall weather fan and will not hesitate to tell anyone and everyone. No more sweating while getting ready to go out, or sweating just by standing outside, or sweating just anywhere but the gym. I am looking forward to sitting outside with my fire pit lit and a nice cup of warm wine. I’ll have to say though – my favorite thing about Fall is SWEATERS! There is nothing like putting on your favorite sweater and enjoying the warmth that it gives you. You can dress sweaters up or down, it really doesn’t matter, they are extremely versatile. Sweaters are probably my favorite item of clothing. So, below I have 5 different outfits featuring some of my favorite sweaters from my wardrobe.Read More »
