Deconstructed Suit

Hello, and welcome back to my blog page. Today we’re going to be discussing suits. Okay, I couldn’t last with the seriousness too long. Well, we are going to be talking suits, specifically one suit, so that part was genuine. BUT Hello everyone, how are ya? I hope your week was awesome, mine left something to be desired that’s for sure! This week I decided it was finally time to wear the suit that I had been holding on to for quite some time. I’m not really super into suits, but I have seen the rise in trend over the last year. So, I thought I would show you guys how I styled my suit together and separately. Suits are not in my regular work repertoire, but I have an intense fascination with wearing a suit to a formal event with some type of lacey bodysuit and some sky-high stilettos. That’s going to stay a fantasy for a while because me and sky-high stilettos do not typically work out, I do the weird buckle that Kevin Hart talked about in his comedy special.

Nevertheless, here I am showing you this suit that was inexpensive and stylish from none other than (drum roll please) Target! I went to Target by myself (first mistake), and I saw the blazer initially. I thought it was gorgeous, great for Fall, great for work, great for casual wear, just great in general. I happened to go to a different Target and discovered the pants; they, unfortunately, didn’t have my size but never fret I found them online and ordered them expeditiously. The first time I saw the full outfit together on my body, I was floored at how great it looked. The blazer has one button and has functional pockets that you just have to pull to pop the seam. The pants have the devil’s contraption – 2 clasps, a button, and a zipper – that are amazing to hold your pants up but terribly inconvenient when you need to use the little restroom. The color is gorgeous, sort of pumpkin spice if you’re into that. The pattern is plaid and very Fall! Unfortunately, I couldn’t wear it in the Fall because it was almost nonexistent in Baltimore. Anyway, onto the pictures, I know why you guys are here!

Full suit: paired with a lace top, also from Target, and nude Jessica Simpson heels. Yes, you read that right! If you’ve read my previous blog posts, you know that I have a love-hate relationship with Jessica Simpson’s shoes. These heels, however, weren’t as uncomfortable! This I would wear to maybe an interview, a more business-like event, or to the living room on Thanksgiving (just kidding).

Suit Bottom: paired with a white sweater from Target, they should sponsor me at this point and my favorite tan boots. Cozy and comfortable, that’s all I have to say.

Blazer: paired with jeans from Eloquii, off-white shirt…from Target, and platform Fenty Pumas. Because I’m such a casual person, I always want to feature casual looks in my blogs. I always tell people; I don’t look like my blog posts every day. I am very much a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, so showing you guys looks that I would typically wear is where it’s at for me!

Jackets…. But Make Them Different!

We’re still in Fall, correct? I mean, the weather outside has been, dare I say, frightful? It seems that winter is upon us, and with it comes this dreadful, freezing, cold weather. It’s cold enough to wear Ugg boots, but we still got a week, or two left to leave our jackets open so people can see the entire outfit. I’m not sure about you guys, but I get hot very quickly. So, for me, it’s almost always okay to leave your jacket open. Unless you have to be outside for an extended period of time, in which case you should probably bundle up and not wear any of the jackets I’m featuring below.

In my recent online shopping travels, I discovered that jackets are becoming more and more stylish. They aren’t just your usual run-of-the-mill colors and styles. They have cropped jackets, long jackets, moto-jackets, dusters, trench coats, and I even saw a green snakeskin trench coat. Talk about innovation. In the spirit of finding amazing jackets, I decided to feature the newest jacket to my clothing repertoire and an oldie but a goodie.

Eloquii Cropped Faux Fur Coat: Paired with distressed boyfriend jeans, white camisole, and studded heels: This jacket was such an exciting buy for me, but I had to have it! I was told that it looks like I killed the Muppets and put them on a jacket, but you know what, it’s personal style, and I loved it! The coat is a lot warmer than it looks, I was actually sweating a little bit in 40-degree weather. It does have hook-and-eyelet clasps, so if you would like to close it, that’s an option. There are also functioning POCKETS, which are so crucial to women. When I wore the jacket, I felt that I stood out a lot, and I’m not usually one to call attention to myself. I wear a lot of muted colors and patterns, and I’m perfectly okay with not being seen as much. Wearing this jacket was almost like asking for attention, and for me, that was BIG. Style is an expression of your personality without having to say anything at all, and I think this jacket displayed me very well. Soft with just a little flare.

ASOS CURVE Dark Floral Jacquard Kimono Jacket: Paired with distressed black jeans, white camisole, and pink pumps. Yes, these are the same pink shoes from a few posts ago that murdered my feet. Style hurts sometimes loves! I purchased this jacket in for birthday in 2018, so this thing is sold out all the way. I do not wear it often as I am afraid to ruin it, but I am now and always will be in love with this thing. It’s a lot heavier than it looks and can be worn as a dress if that’s your style. The armpit area is cut open, which is bomb for me so I can get some ventilation when I’m too hot. A lot more muted that than the jacket before, but just as cute and just as “Shanice.” I can’t post this without mentioning that these jeans are from Torrid, and they are amazing. They hold everything together and fit like a glove. I looked and felt great in these jeans, and I will be back, Torrid!

On Trend: Sequins

One of my absolute favorite trends this year is sequins. Who doesn’t love a sparkly outfit or a nice sparkly outfit? Sequins are very versatile and depending on the outfit or the formality of the event sequins can upgrade your look. Literally, there are sequins everywhere and I am just enamored with including sequins in my outfits. I especially like the cool ones that change color when you brush it up or down. If you open any website right now, you’ll see one of two things, plaid/flannel or sequins.Read More »

Goodbye Spooky Season, Hello Cozy Season

The leaves on the trees are starting to change colors, it’s getting dark earlier, your car windows are foggy in the morning, you know what that sounds like? Sounds like Fall weather has finally hit us, and I couldn’t be happier! I am not a huge Halloween fan – I did, however, pass out candy this year (Yay, Adulting). But I am a huge Fall weather fan and will not hesitate to tell anyone and everyone. No more sweating while getting ready to go out, or sweating just by standing outside, or sweating just anywhere but the gym. I am looking forward to sitting outside with my fire pit lit and a nice cup of warm wine. I’ll have to say though – my favorite thing about Fall is SWEATERS! There is nothing like putting on your favorite sweater and enjoying the warmth that it gives you. You can dress sweaters up or down, it really doesn’t matter, they are extremely versatile. Sweaters are probably my favorite item of clothing. So, below I have 5 different outfits featuring some of my favorite sweaters from my wardrobe.Read More »

How Blogging Improved…Everything!

When I decided I wanted to start blogging it was roughly a year before when I actually started blogging. I had so many stipulations in my mind, which made me stop myself from continuing my dreams. I told myself that the plus-sized blogging market was already so saturated that my opinion or my views wouldn’t really matter. But I decided to start blogging anyway and I am so happy that I did. Because of blogging my life has improved, and I am so much happier with the quality of it.

Let’s Celebrate the End of Summer with…Dresses!

Are you excited for fall? Are you already mourning the end of summer? This summer was amazing for me and a lot happened that changed my point of view on life. On July 21, 2019, I started my blog and that has opened so many doors for me. My confidence has skyrocketed and so has my overall happiness. I’ve learned new things about style and fashion, and I am so excited for the new season. I also applied, got accepted, and started grad school at UMBC. I started trying new things and in turn, started enjoying life even more. So, to commemorate the summer I decided to put on some of my favorite white dresses to symbolize understanding, spirituality, protection, and perfection. And since Fall starts tomorrow, I figured this would be the perfect way to end a great summer.

The Mall? I think I’ll pass.

Picture this: it’s a regular Saturday and you’re sitting at home, bored, watching Transformers for the 100th time. You’re text messaging one of your best friends (who happens to not be a plus-sized woman) and she asks you to go shopping with her at the local mall. Now as a plus-sized woman, you start to worry just a tad. You’re probably thinking “Oh my God, I’m not going to find anything at the mall. There aren’t any stores that carry my size”. So instead, you decided not to go to the mall and continue watching Transformers.Read More »
